By drawing on relevant network models and theories, critically assess the implications of different network structures (e.g., the Barabási-Albert scale- free network, the Watts-Strogatz small-world network) and properties (e.g., centrality, clustering) in terms of real-world processes such as, for example, disease spread, opinion dynamics, the diffusion of computer viruses, and viral marketing.
This essay is for a business management module. Therefore, whilst some very basic mathematical concepts can be mentioned (e.g. the basic formula of a network), the essay should dominantly focused on the qualitative discussion. There should be no discussion based on mathematical formulas etc. A good guide is whether a reader with NO mathematical knowledge can follow the essay.
Graphs, diagrams and visual representations of networks can be used.
The essay should cover the suggestions in the essay title and should also mention the following: the achilles heel of scale-free networks, Barabasi’s preferential treatment theory and growth model.
